Yellow is the Color for Spring… and Maybe 2018.

(Psst… do you love our cover photo? That’s our Nord chair styled with pin-cushion protea, cherry branch, and fringed tulips).

Yellow has quietly asserted itself. Appearing first in Christo’s “Floating Piers” project, then again in Beyonce’s “Hold Up” video (and then once more at her 2018 Coachella performance — #beychella), the hue has trickled into the collective consciousness. Spring color trends are always a bold departure from the comfortable neautrals of winter, but this years’ contribution has political undertones along with its cheering effect.

The Youth Are on Fire

Crowned “Generation-Z Yellow,” this trend is less all-consuming than Millennial pink — probably thanks to yellow’s long-time reputation as being hard-to-wear. Yellow commands attention, and that attention can be intimidating, but this trend addresses those jitters with its super-flexible approach. 2018 doesn’t just focus on one shade. Instead, it spans the spectrum of tonal tumerics, sunny yolks, and Yeezy’s “semi-frozen.” For some reason, that’s kind of… groundbreaking.

Be Flexible

Usually, a color trend is prescribed within a pretty specific range, but the fluidity of this color trend comes across as much more welcoming. Call it the Gen-Z influence. Because the trend invites you to take what works, it’s much easier to incorporate into your own sense of style, whether it’s on your person or in your home. Gen Z is known for their ability and desire to make politics and media inclusive. We shouldn’t be surprised that their attitude extends to color trends too.

Article Effect

Now that Spring is upon us, we’re finally able to spread the adaptable, cheerful gospel of yellow while managing to be seasonally appropriate. You might have noticed that we’ve pulled some of our favorite yellow pieces and juiced them up with floral accents. You can’t have spring without flowers.

We took a new-view of the Lina. The sherbet tones of “caramel-antique” roses mellow the graphic nature of the rug.
